about

Have you ever had that one special piece of clothing in your closet that just always seemed to work, no matter the season or trend? For me, it's always been a graphic tee. One of my all-time favorites was this cool roaring tiger t shirt from my days with Free People. It was printed on a soft, faded out black tee that I wore with everything from flare leg trousers, long loose knit cotton dresses, and velvet blazers. If you knew me back then, then you knew about my tiger tee!

That shirt lasted me about 10 years, well into beginning my creative career as a hairstylist and business owner. And in that time, I learned to wear it everywhere - from business conferences to parent teacher conferences, from work to yoga. It was only after all of that outfitting that I finally realized what makes a graphic tee so special - the versatility!

I started Thread Hippie because I wanted to make that kind of tee - an easy fitting, really well made graphic tee that can be worn anywhere with anything. So I started visiting LA to find all cotton fabrics and recreate patterns from some of my favorite tees. And then I hit the softness goldmine and learned to soak our tees in a special wash to create the super comfy lived-in feel of a great vintage tee.

I think part of the magic of that tiger tee was that it wasn’t a band or brand fighting for attention. It was a cool print confident enough to blend in with so many of my outfits, never fighting to be the center of attention. I wanted the Thread Hippie graphics to feel the same way and I love how our hand drawn images complement the softness and look of the fabric. Cool prints on a great fabric, I can’t ask for anything more!

Making a Thread Hippie tee is harder than I ever imagined, but I am obsessed with what we’ve created. And as it turns out, the first graphic we created was our cosmic tiger! This magical three-eyed cat is full of deep meaning for me because of its relationship to intuition, self-trust and self-love. Check out Thread Hippie and find the next magical tee that will live in your wardrobe for years to come.
