our vintage lightweight fabric
Hey everyone, I wanted to put down a few words about one of our favorite fabrics - our vintage lightweight fabric and tell you why we love it so much.
When Angela and I started visiting LA looking to make handcrafted tees, we knew finding the right fabrics would be critical to recreating that lived-in vibe we love so much. And as we kicked around the city, one day we came across this incredible all cotton blend that just blew us away. An all cotton blend of 70% virgin cotton and 30% recycled cotton.
Go grab your favorite vintage t-shirt out of your closet, maybe that treasured Van Halen number you scored at a garage sale somewhere along the way. That tee wasn’t quite as soft when it was first made in the 80s. That’s because when a 100% cotton tee is first made, the cotton fibers are long and totally intact. Cotton is such a great fabric to work with because of its rare combination of strength and softness. But as that tee was worn and washed over the years, those long cotton fibers began to break apart, or “break in,” creating that soft touch we love to find.
Our vintage lightweight is so great because it skips some of that aging work by blending in broken-in cotton like that Van Halen tee right into the yarn. And as a cherry on top, the reclaimed cotton fibers in the yarn create this super subtle texture in the tee, giving it even more character and making you feel like this new tee has already been around the sun a few times. The best part, it's made to last and go a few more rounds with you!
